About me
Feel free to label me as you like: a 46-year-old Swedish woman, mother of two, wife, trained journalist (but not working as such), traveller, book reader with a fancy for medieval dancing and mountains, who also nourishes an old friendship with anything geekish, such as sci-fi, fantasy and adjusting fandoms.
My taste for movies is as wide and unpredictable as you can expect from someone who never went to film school. Anything goes. Almost. The Velvet Café is the place where I hang out and share whatever movie related thought that comes into my mind – reviews as well as general ranting.

Hehe! Well if you ask me I do it because I enjoy to talk about movies with people not only from my own country, but from all over the world. It certainly adds new perspectives and makes for an interesting discussion.
I also imagine that it helps me to keep up or even improve my English a bit. When I first started to blog in English, three years ago (on another blog about different topic), it was very hard to write in English. At first I remember writing posts in Swedish, and then painstakingly translating them. But that has changed over the years and nowadays it is as if my brain switches over and starts to think in English when I’m about to write a blogpost. I don’t want to lose that, so I stick to English.
My third reason is that I’ve brought a handful of readers with me from my old blog and they don’t understand Swedish.
Oh, and there’s a fourth reason as well: I’m active at the Filmspotting forum and I publish my reviews there as well. As long as I want to enjoy the discussions there, the choice is simple.
But sometimes I can envy my fellow Swedish bloggers who write in Swedish. It’s easier to be playful in your own language. I always feel a little bit clumsy and I’m perfectly aware of that I make quite a few grammar and spelling mistakes, which is annoying, even though I’m trying to not feel to bad about it as long as people roughly get what I want to express.

Just stumbled upon your new blog, after wondering if you had ever again posted on your former blog (did not have the old one in my feed anymore).
Glad to see that you are still writing. I am also always looking for new movies to watch (I am personally a big fan of mindbender sort of stuff like Memento) so I will be reading your reviews with interest 🙂

For an English-speaking/reading uniglot like me (okay, I can do a bit of German and a little French), I appreciate that you’re writing in English. I love seeing the perspective of non-Americans and non-Western Hemispherians on film.
And I love having someone in my own age category writing on film, too! We need to get you into the LAMB, and on a LAMBcast so that I’m not the only person there who remembers the ’70s.

I definitely will send an application to the LAMB. I’m afraid though that my memory is pretty crap, so even if I watched movies in the 70s many of them are pretty much lost to me. However, I suppose my age might bring a somewhat different perspective on movies.

Jessica, found you through my friend Ryan’s blog The Matinee. I’m going to be on his podcast this week, too, if you listen to that. I’m 46, and among the oldest of our film blogger community in Toronto, but don’t really think about it much. Some of the younger ones have seen more films than I have, anyway.
Looking forward to reading more of your thoughts on film!

I definitely haven’t watched as many movies as many of the younger film bloggers. Yet I hope that maybe my older age might help me to provide a slightly different perspective in the discussion. I’m really glad to see you around and I’ll definitely check out your blog. I had a quick glance at it and it certainly looked promising! The Matinee is one of the podcasts I try to keep up with, so I’ll hear your voice soon.

Sorry to be a late-comer to your new blog – but I had to check it out when I saw the “Closed” sign on the ol’ PPI. I’m very glad to see you’re still writing – and I’m starting to write again, too – but given that I don’t play WoW much anymore, it’s good to find other things to discuss. I can’t wait to catch up around here, and hopefully I’ll have seen some of the movies you’re discussing, so I have the opportunity to chime in. Can’t promise they won’t be “Walls of Text” like I used to leave you at PPI, but we’ll see.
It’s good to read you again, and I look forward to more in the future.
